12. WEEE Ireland
“WEEE” refers to the Waste Electrical and Electronic equipment directive and is European Union legislation. Any company that distributes Electrical and Electronic equipment, irrespective of sale, has to comply with the WEEE regulations. Over 75% of waste electrical goods end up in landfill, where lead and other toxins contained in the electrical goods can cause soil and water contamination. This can have a very harmful effect on natural habitat, wildlife and also human health. When situated near populated areas these toxins can cause problems to communities as their water and soil are polluted. We take great pride in participating in a greener environment and we are pleased to say that we do our best to keep our environment clean and are WEEE compliant.
How does WEEE work?
If you’re getting a new PC from us, we’ll be glad to take back your old one for recycling. Take back is on a one-for-one basis only and the product must be of a similar type or have performed the same function as the new product purchased. For example, if you purchase a gaming system from us we will take back your old gaming system free of charge and ensure it is recycled in a safe and responsible manner. However, we will not take back your old television, fridge… All WEEE must be recycled and should not be placed in any of your household wheelie bins. Make sure you always recycle all your old electrical goods.
How do I know if my product is covered?
Look out for this symbol:
If the symbol shown here is found on any of your goods, it means that the product is covered by the WEEE Regulations
How do I return my old product?
You can return your old product/waste batteries by contacting us to arrange to collect your old product/waste batteries. Alternatively, you can bring your old product to your nearest civic amenity centre, of which there are approximately 64 located throughout the country, which will allow consumers to dispose of all old electronic equipment and waste batteries free of charge.
